Microsearch can perform a Wildcard Search if instructed to do so. The instruction to perform a Wildcard Search is accomplished by inserting an asterisk ( * ) into the search expression, which tells Microsearch to replace the asterisk ( * ) by one or more unspecified characters. For instance, if the user input the search expression holi*, Microsearch would return a list of documents containing words that started with the letters holi (in this instance, the words holiday, holidays, holistic, etc.).
Multiple instances of the wildcard instructor the asterisk ( * ) can be used in the same search. For instance, holi* and *tmas would find many documents, including the documents that contained the words holiday and Christmas.
Care must be taken when using Wildcards: the Search Results list can quickly get very large. The most useful time for the Wildcard is probably when the users want to include in the Search Results all the varieties of a stem word.
